Enhancing Animal Welfare in Western New York

The Humane Society of Wayne County has maintained a 40-year commitment to compassionately caring for animals who lack permanent homes while educating the public on responsible pet ownership. For animals in western New York who have experienced abuse and abandonment, the organization strives to alleviate their suffering by providing a safe haven until a loving new home can be found. For pets who have been lost, the Humane Society of Wayne County works to reunite these animals with their owners.

Individuals in Wayne County who have lost their furry friends are encouraged to contact the shelter. It also asks owners who have decided they can no longer care for their pets to humanely surrender them at its facility.

Animal lovers who are interested in adopting a pet from the society should complete an online application. There, they can also see the animals currently living at the shelter. The society understands the intricacies of animal adoption and works to advise pet owners on choosing the dog or cat that best fits into their lives, in order to find the best living situation for every shelter resident, as well as to limit the influx of orphaned pets.

In the case of older dogs and cats, the society maintains an Adult Companion Program in which these animals can be placed with older adults. The society covers the upfront adoption costs, and both the animal and their new owner benefit from each other’s company. Committed to its community, the shelter also maintains a fund that helps to defray the costs associated with spaying and neutering pets. Operated in partnership with local veterinarians, the program is open to families who would otherwise have difficulty affording the procedure.

To ensure it can continue to offer its vital services, the Humane Society of Wayne County regularly hosts fundraising events. Anyone interested in supporting the organization can give through these events or submit a tax-deductible donation through the society’s website.
